In the past twenty years, the major thrust of FAO’s  (Food and Agriculture Organization of the Iran) 

technical assistance to Iran had been in the areas of capacity building,

 

policy and  strategy development,

crop production,

livestock and animal health,

fisheries,

 forest management, 

 emergency and re-habilitation programme.

 

The country of Iran's approach working with the FAO is presently reingorcing programmes and implemneting a comprehensive integrated strategic apporoach addressing current challenges in the food and agriculture sector in a sutainable manner.

 

The integrated strategic programme to be implemented in this respect would advocate four major programmes, focusing on:

(i) water scarcity and sustainable land management;

(ii) food security, nutrition and food safety;

(iii) climate smart sustainable eco-agriculture;

 (iv) human capital and institutional capacity development.
